Chew The Fat!'s history at The End stretches back to 2002, when the unprecedented success of their stint hosting the lounge for Harlem Nights quickly led to them securing a night of their own, in control of the whole venue. Fat!'s success owes a lot to the massive popularity of their residents, and the havoc created whenever they step behind the decks. Breaks legend and Fat! founder Paul Arnold and their latest rising star, Kid Blue , are to be found behind the main room turntables on the second Friday of every month, tearing it up for a capacity crowd who know their music inside out!
The residents are joined by an assortment of guests, however Chew The Fat! has never been about big names. As all Fat! fans know, the night grew through word of mouth, didn't need to use flyers, and built up a dedicated crowd who knew it was all about the music. In the nine years since it began, Chew The Fat! has always put the party first. Fat! fans love the night for its atmosphere. Good, honest, unpretentious fun is key to a good night out, and Paul Arnold and co know that as well as anyone. It has grown from a friendly down-home South London party to a seminal event, integral to the ever-growing global breaks scene. Through its music and DJs, Chew The Fat! has helped make the scene what it is.
At The End, expect to hear the heady brew of musical sounds and styles which characterises Chew The Fat! The night has always been one step beyond other breakbeat nights, championing an infectious mix of house, techno, broken beats, rarities, acid, indie, and even D&B influenced breakbeats alongside the freshest breaks cuts.
As Paul Arnold explains, "We were one of the original breakbeat nights...I think that Chew The Fat! has really helped the breaks scene's DJs mature from the unknown to the well established". This includes Paul himself, who regularly plays all over the world, having organised Chew The Fat! parties in Hungary, Australia, Barcelona, Russia and even Ibiza.
With its open-minded attitude and open-ended musical policy, Chew The Fat! epitomises what breaks is all about.
