In February 2007, a brand new residency launched at The End - Will Saul 's Simple Records . The labels' philosophy is simply (of course) an open minded intention to release deep, driving house and techno for the dancefloor. The label has managed to embrace this to create something of a Simple sound - although it's more of a feeling that runs though their tracks rather than a genre - combining warm melodic elevation, a nod to the classic Detroit sound, and stripped down dubby melancholy.
2007 has seen releases every month on Simple, and on and Will's sub label Aus Mu sic, including tracks and remixes from Isolee, Konrad Black , Prins Thomas , Lee Jones (My My), Will himself and an LP from Sideshow - not to mention a special compilation forthcoming to celebrate five years of Simple.
Alongside Will Saul , the core roster of artists includes Phonique , Mike Monday, King Roc and Jesse Rose, with remixes from the likes of Sebo K , John Tejada, Spirit Catcher, Mathew Jonson, John Dahlback, Jeff Samuel and many more.
Given the broadminded attitude of Simple Records , what sound can we expect from their residencey? Will Saul explains: "The night will capture the unique sound of Simple Records in a club environment. Deep, futuristic house, techno and disco with flashes of soul and irresistible melodies that hark back to the early days of Detroit."
So there you have it. We could carry on with the 'simply' puns for a whole page - but instead we'll just let the night speak for itself. See you down there.
