Club Night Profile
It's impossible to do justice to Subterrain in a paragraph, but we'll give it a go. At the time it was pushing the cutting edge of underground DJs, most of which have gone on to achieve worldwide fame. A typical night's lineup would be something like ' Mr C , Laurent Garnier, Sven Vath , Layo and Bushwacka ! and Anthony Rother', and every one was an absolute stormer.
SUBTERRAIN
THREE-WAY ALBUM LAUNCH - LAURENT GARNIER, SVEN VATH, DANNY TENAGLIA, MR.CC, LAYO & BUSHWACKA!
APRIL 2000
Laurent Garnier : Oh wow, we had a great time at this party but then
again, I’ve never had a bad one at The End. It was a launch party for
my album [‘Unreasonable Behaviour ’] and so I was doing a live thing. I
had all my gear over, plugged direct into the mixer and coming out of
those huge speakers at The End. We had a proper light show going as
well, it felt like a full-on live gig. People were going crazy, arms
outstretched to the DJ booth. The level of intensity among the crowd
was quite something - it surprised all of us.
Liam O ’Hare (Operations Manager of The End): This night featured album
launches for Laurent Garnier [‘Unreasonable Behaviour ’], Sven Vath
[‘In The Mix ’]and Mr.C [‘100% Unreleased Subterrain ’], any of which
could have filled the club on their own. But we just thought, ‘Can we
ever get them in the club on the same night again? ’ And then we were
offered Danny Tenaglia as well! We had the whole building blacked out
for him - he ’s a very particular DJ. The atmosphere was electric
because the standard of music was so high. It was one reason why we
decided to stop Subterrain soon after - to go out on a high and become
legend. It's one of those nights that 5,000 people claim they attended.
