Circo Loco’s New Year’s Day parties are always the hottest festive ticket in town and in true ‘always the bridesmaid never the bride’ fashion I have enjoyed working them, but never been on the right side of the bar – but no more!  This year I donned my monkey mask to join the loyal yet ever-so-slightly-unhinged regulars and newbies alike. These guys know that the only way to see in the New Year is when all the ‘once a year’ clubbers are weeping into their Resolve vowing “never again”.

Cowboys and Indians danced with learner swimmers and a man with what had to be the world’s smallest tambourine - this is Circo Loco don't'cha know!  Leading by example was head honcho Rich Smith who, from the main room DJ booth, gave a nostalgic nod to the 90’s by throwing out glow sticks (which our very own Bushwacka proceeded to fashion into a rather lovely new rave smile!) and clinging a little too tightly to a blow up doll for my liking. 

Outfit now beautifully accessorized, the next conundrum was to work out which room to hit first, and with a line-up that included Dinky, David Squillance, Jose De Divina, Geddes, and the outstanding Marc Antona, you’d have to forgive a girls indecisiveness. All three rooms were packed to the disco balls.  The beautiful boys and girls in AKA were getting as up close and sweaty and the electro soldiers having it large in the main room. For me, Terry and Ryan O’Gorman in AKA and Vitalik live in The End’s lounge gave stand out performances.  These guys were up against the big names in the main room (who of course, all gave stellar performances) but boy did they hold their own.   I had never seen Vitalik play live before and can’t wait to catch them again - and if that means being repeatedly shoulder barged by a an overexcited ‘native American Indian’ from Spain’s dancing, it’ll still be worth it.
