Motorcitysoul - Secret Frankfurt
Motorcitysoul fill us in on Frankfurt's finest coffee, best record shops and glorious football stadium.
Delirium
Töngesgasse 38, 60311 Frankfurt
www.delirium.de
Our record shop of choice. Located in the heart of Frankfurt, in the nice and small Töngesgasse, near the shopping-heart of Frankfurt called Zeil. You can find nice deep house records here, ask for Steffen (a very good house DJ himself), and he will give you the underground house scoop, and hopefully the newest Motorcitysoul remixes ;). Delirium is not for vinyl nerds only: you also find good upfront fashion in here, definitely the best spot for a DJ and his girlfriend in town.
Riz
Berliner Str. 72, 60311 Frankfurt
Sunday - Thursday 10:00 - 1:00 / Friday and Saturday 10:00 - 3:00
Every time when we are in the city, and are looking for some caffeine, it will be the Riz. A good friend of ours (Sascha, a hotel owner) once ordered a tea there, then changed the order into tea and a gin and tonic, and finally told the girl to skip the tea and just go with the gin and tonic, all in about 10 seconds. It’s the perfect place to slip out of the day into the night.
Cafe Cardamon
Glauburgstrasse 74, 60318 Frankfurt
I can't believe that we are going to tell you about this really, really secret place. Don't tell anybody else! It’s a cute cafe in Frankfurt’s north end, but still close to the centre, about ten minutes walk from Freebase Records, see below. You get amazing breakfast there for reasonable prices, unbelievable milk foam creations on their coffee and if you are into exotic coffee, you have to make sure you try the cafe with cardamon - amazing!
Freebase Records
Peterstr. 2, 60313 Frankfurt
www.freebase-records.com
Defintely one of Germany’s best record shops run by DJ Meat and Bernd Maus. Dorian Paic (Raum Musik) also works here and there are some really good young guns too, such as Federico Molinari and a young house lover named Marcel. Check out the guys for their special recommendations. Tell him you're a friend of Westbam. ;)
Jazzkeller
Kleine Bockenheimerstr. 18a, 60323 Frankfurt am Main
www.jazzkeller.com
Founded in the early 50s, this place is old school. Dodgy German post-war building with neon lit entrance leading into a cozy basement. Jazzkeller breathes the spirit of the late 50s to early 70s like no other place in Germany. Names like Adorno checked out the skills of Dean Martin and Gillespie down here. They still have top notch versatile line ups for low prices and a really friendly manager who can tell you some great stories about the good ol' days.
Waldstadion
www.commerzbank-arena.de
www.eintracht.de
We still call it the old name: Waldstadion, the home of our beloved Eintracht Frankfurt. Being season ticket owners we try to see as many matches as possible and suffer here with our mates. Frankfurt is a city and a team with a big tradition but lacking the really big hits except a couple of national cups, one national championship and two UEFA Cup wins, all ages ago. Although Bayern Munich can’t be beaten in terms of titles, we still have one of the best crowds in Europe. Make sure you come and check the atmosphere out when you're here.
