Icicle - Secret Eindhoven

Holland's most exciting new drum & bass producer spreads the word on what's what in Eindhoven.

Effenaar
Dommelstraat 2

The Effenaar is Eindhoven's best club; it’s legendary and got rebuilt about a year and a half ago. It has a total capacity of around 1500 and you can catch all the big names in music there, ranging from rock and pop to techno and drum & bass and everything inbetween. It's home to Eindhoven's biggest D&B night, ICON. Probably the number one place to go out in Eindhoven and located near Central Station so even if you are in another city in Holland you can go there and take a night train back.

T-Shu
Kleine Berg 50
www.t-shu.com/

The one place in Eindhoven you need to go if sneakers is your thing. They always have a good selection of rare sneakers but also have designer toys and t-shirts. The last pair I bought there myself were my reflective black Nike Dunks, too dangerous. It is on a street by the name Kleine Berg, which is often referred to as Eindhoven’s nicest street. It has a nice atmosphere, cafes and a few little shops ranging from clothes and music to art and comic stores.

Bagel & Juice
Kleine Berg 19

Just around the corner from T-Shu is Bagel & Juice. I practically live there, they serve bagels and juices, which you might have figured, and they're absolutely great. My regular order consists of a sun-dried tomato bagel with mozzarella, pesto and basil from the oven and a mango, mint, aloe vera and orange juice. Bagel & Juice is the best place to recover from a night of heavy drinking, I always walk in totally hung over and out reborn.

Area 51
Beukenlaan 10051

Area 51 is Europe’s biggest skate park so if that’s your thing it can’t be missed. It is located on the Philips Strijp-S compound and is actually in an old Philips warehouse. Its location isn’t really near the centre so you might want to grab a train there from Central Station to Eindhoven Beukenlaan station. Entering the park you get an awesome view of the whole thing from a first floor balcony. Also located on the first floor is Bar 51, a club that holds about 400 people. You can usually find me DJing there every month, mostly unannounced at a dubstep/D&B night called Sine, run by me and Piro.

Bakkerij

Stratumseind 95, Eindhoven

This wouldn’t have been a complete guide to a Dutch city if I wasn’t going to include a coffee shop. The Bakkerij is an old coffee shop right in the centre of Eindhoven. The street which it is on, Stratumseind, is famous for its bars, basically there’s nothing but bars on it. The Bakkerij is not only a coffee shop but also a club. Red Zone used to do a drum & bass night there and ICON still does, though very rarely. If you want to get stoned and get a taste of the Eindhoven stoner scene you have to go there.
