Biography

Bukem is one of those rare musicians who have had such a profound influence on their particular genre, that they define a sound.  Bukem and his label Good Looking Records, are famous as purveyors of beautiful, progressive, atmospheric drum & bass – music that has seen Bukem stretch his popularity and influence well beyond the boundaries of the d&b scene.  First coming to fame for tracks such as ‘Music’, ‘Atlantis’ and ‘Demon’s Theme’ released in the early 90s, these tracks marked Bukem out as one of the great talents of this emerging scene.  He then started a night, Speed, a legendary event that became a breeding ground for the developing drum & bass sound.  As the music progressed, Good Looking helped to shape the jazzy, more ambient side, particularly through its series of ‘Logical Progression’ albums.  His solo album, ‘Journey Inwards’ didn’t drop until 2000, by which point Bukem had become one of the biggest names in drum & bass, in no small part due to his incredible series of mix albums, ‘Progression Sessions’, that were totally different to anything else going on in drum & bass.  It was through his night of the same name that he became a resident and promoter at The End, holding a Friday night, featuring himself, Good Looking artists and selected guests regularly for several years.  He continues to tour round the world to this day, and his influence on drum & bass is forever etched into the sound.
