Primavera Sound - Secret Barcelona

Alberto Guijarro, co-founder of the Primavera Sound festival, shares his favourite places in Barcelona.

Bar Ramón
Calle Borrell / Calle Tamarit

I would probably consider this place the most outstanding tapas bar in Barcelona, not just because of the quality of the food or the cheap prices, but because it has the best atmosphere with even better background rock music. I love eating Serrano ham while listening to The Smiths, Led Zeppelin and Scott Walker. But watch out - bartenders at first might not seem as friendly as you’d expect, though in some ways this is part of its charm!

Cocktail Bar Boadas
Calle Tallers, 1

Must be one of the smallest cocktail bars in Barcelona, and not very comfortable, but definitely has the best cocktails I’ve ever tasted! Check it out if you want to have an unforgettable time, but careful on the drinks - they taste great and go down a bit too smoothly.

Rambla de Poblenou

This is the real Rambla of the Barcelonian people, located in the most Mediterranean quarter of the city. The perfect place to take a walk any day of the week.

Apolo Venue
Calle Nou de la Rambla, 113

A magical place to enjoy live music and DJ sessions, since it used to be an old theatre. Besides showcasing bands from different styles and countries, it also hosts Nitsa club, one of the first clubs in Spain to program electronic music. Also it’s situated in an unknown but very cosmopolitan neighbourhood. My memories wouldn’t be the same without this place.

CD Drome Barcelona

Calle Valldoncella, 3
www.cddrome.com

Whenever near El Raval, I recommend you drop by CD Drome, it is one of my favourite record shops, since it’s where I can find anything from electronica to the most alternative music records. In the same area, you can find lots of small shops and also the MACBA (Museum of Contemporary Art).

Primavera Sound

One of my favourite times of the year is near the end of May, when Primavera Sound festival opens its doors. After a whole year of hard work, it’s the moment of truth and we have to measure up to the expectations of an audience that trusts us and that comes from remote places from all over the world. These are 3 days full of thrills, that in spite of having to work non-stop I wouldn’t change for anything in the world.
