Leon Jean Marie - Secret New York
Hot new talent Leon Jean Marie tips us off after his trips to New York.
APT
419 W 13th St
www.aptwebsite.com
Nights at APT have been pretty much the best nights for me whenever I’ve been out in NYC. It’s on 13th Street in the meatpacking district. They just have proper music for proper music people. Sounds a little weird the way I say it, but it’s just great vibes with people like Bobbito and DJ Spinna playing a Stevie Wonder themed night, to Prince Paul and Premier playing killer hip hop, to some guys I’ve never heard of playing incredible disco.
Cafeteria
119 Seventh Ave, 7th Ave
This was my late-night food binge spot. It’s a strange one because it had class, but was open 24 hours, just perfect! One night however that dream came to an end when myself and co. were embarrassingly, and unfairly, thrown out on the grounds of disruption.
Central Park
There is not much I can say about this, due to the fact that it’s a world renowned landmark! Unfortunately I was too busy to venture across all of it. It was very cold, however still a wonderful experience to go for a stroll in, whatever the weather.
Mercer Street
Mercer St is where Mark Ronson's studio is located. I have recorded there twice and spent quite a bit of time hanging out in the area. Located just off Broadway, there’s plenty of good restaurants – check the Mercer Kitchen – and you can do loads of star gazing; I saw Russell Crowe, Naomi Campbell and P Diddy in the space of three days!
