The Thames
Go down to the river bank and walk about. I find it very easy to be lazy when you are local, so my wife and I really force ourselves to go out and see the sights. The development around the millennium wheel is amazing, it's great to just wander about or take guests down there when they are in town. The aquarium and city hall have some great exhibitions.
Camden Stables
Camden stables are the undiscovered treasure of Camden's well known market. It's easy to get lost in a hive of antique bargains. From furniture to pictures to useless collectibles that you don't really need, this place has the lot.
Food
Food in London is fantastic. We are so spoilt for eating out. I have tried all the fancy places you are supposed to visit and they are good for the 'novelty' value on birthdays etc. My current fave is Busaba Eathai just off Tottenham Court Road. It's cheap (for London), has a great atmosphere and great green curry. The recently refurbished Yo Sushi on Poland St is ace too.
Cinemas
Being a movie fanatic, I try to get out to many different cinemas. Screen On The Green in Islington is a great place to watch non-mainstream movies, along with the cinema at the Barbican. For mainstream cinema, I tend to go to Finchley Warner Village or the O2 centre at Swiss Cottage, which is a real adventure I might add! Then there's The Phoenix in Finchley - underground cinema at its best.
Shopping
Shopping, it's my greatest downfall. YDUK in Hampstead is my all time favourite boutique. It specialises in all those new independent up-and-coming UK designers that are breaking through like Bent & Corrupt and Buddhist Punk. Selfridges is always a must for variety; a day out in itself though! The basement is the best; all the books and gadgets you could ever want and more.
