Pendulum - Secret Perth
The Australian d&b heroes give us the lowdown on the coolest spots in Perth
Dadas Records, 36 Pier St, Perth City Centre
I was too scared to go into Dadas when I was younger. It was in a basement and I'm sure all sorts of sordid activities went on down there, and during my punk and metal days it was where all those 'rave kids' used to hang out. It's one of the few independent record stores left in Perth where you can find obscure things nobody else has, ranging from cassettes of long forgotten Perth bands to hand written/photocopied zines. Has a pretty awesome bunch of guys working there who have been active in the Perth scene since before I knew what music was. Essential for an afternoon's crate dig.
Highs and Lows, 672 Beaufort St, Mt Lawley
Probably one of the only places in Perth to get decent kicks you don't see everywhere else. It might be the most isolated city in the world, but there's still plenty of sneaker freakers, and this new shop is a welcome addition to shopping in Perth.
Viet Hoa, 349 William St, Northbridge
You usually have to wait, the tables and chairs are plastic and the service is non existent, but if you dig Vietnamese food this is the spot. Pho for under ten bucks that will fill you to the brim and the stuffed chicken wings are intense.
The Rosemount Hotel, Corner Angove and Fitzgerald Streets, North Perth
All the good bars I used to like have closed or no longer do live music. RIP The Grovesnor and The Greenwich. The Rosemount Hotel is the place to be on Thursdays for Roller and has great live music pretty much every night of the week. My old punk rock band played one of its first gigs here so it has great memories. Cool staff and Hoegaarden on tap. Win!
The Galaxy Drive In Theatre, Goolelelal Drive, Kingsley
The last remaining drive-in theatre left in Perth. I'm not sure if it's still open, but for a taste of a long lost cultural activity you have to check it out. Flat coke and a pack of Jaffas are an essential addition to the experience.
