Pnau - Secret Sydney
The Australian duo tell you all you need to know about one of the world's coolest cities
The Crown Street Area
This is where the cool kids hang out. Make your way over to Dimitri's Pizza to buy food then eat it at the Gaslight Inn nearby, which is ground zero for any activity. After drinking at the Gaslight, you can make your way over to Club 77 on William Street which hosts the Bang Gang club on Fridays. This is where all the beautiful people come, to behave in an entirely debauched manner...
The Art Gallery of New South Wales, Domain Road
This is a great gallery housing a mixture of permanent stuff, both classic and modern, plus contemporary exhibitions. Artists featured include Pablo Picasso, Luc Shark and Robert Kippel. It's an ideal place to go after a big night out, because no one is going to bother you there. You can go through it all at your own pace and externalise all your thoughts. It's good for a comedown...
The Botanical Gardens, from Woolloomoolloo Finger Wharf to Circular Key
The Botanical Gardens are very scenic and constitute a great walk that flows down 4 kilometres to the Sydney Opera House. Hardly any locals take this route, it's mainly visitors to the city, and as such it's very quiet and peaceful. There's a lot of space and scenery along the way, you can see the whole harbour as you go, the space is endless. It's also a good place to go and be quiet and sit and have a picnic.
Gifted off Crown Street, Hambone Parade
Touted as 'Sydney's 'indiest record store', this place is just off Crown Street. It's a hollowed out garage which has been done out and painted up by the owners. They import CDs from all over the world so there's an excellent selection. On Saturdays they also have bands playing, promoting their latest release, which makes it a good place to meet like-minded people. And if you buy a CD, you'll be the only one to have it, as they only stock one of each copy.
Water and Tea, Sussex Street
This drinking house doesn't serve alcohol but instead stocks over 150 varieties of tea. It's located in the heart of China Town so it's mainly Asian kids who hang out there, you won't find many Aussies. It's a good place to go with friends as hardly anyone knows about it, and you can get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's also open until 4 in the morning.
