Biography

Layo & Bushwacka!, aka Matthew 'Bushwacka!' and Layo Paskin first hooked up at the studios of mutual friend Mr C, and developed a production and DJ partnership that has seen them score three critically acclaimed albums, as well as residencies at major clubs around the world.

As a schoolboy, Matthew had been a promising percussionist in the London School Symphony. However, his own words, this ended in 1988 when " I went to a Ratpack warehouse party. I left there at 11 o'clock the next morning and come home to an angry mum." He went on to join the Ratpack as a DJ, and after graduating from a studio engineering course got a job at Mr C's studio. Layo meanwhile immersed himself in underground dance in the late 80s and was soon throwing warehouse parties with Mr C. One such party was in an underground site on West Central St., which went on to become The End.

In the mid 90s Layo & Bushwacka! begun recording together, and in 1998 released their debut long player, the critically acclaimed 'Low Life' on The End's in-house label, End Recordings. In 2002 they released 'Night Moves' through one of the UK's biggest and best independent labels, XL Recordings. This album contained 'Love Story', one of the biggest club anthems of the year, which, along with singles from the album 'Let The Good Times Roll' and 'Shining Through', enjoyed chart success. The album's success gave them the platform to take the live show on the road, which received widespread acclaim.

Layo & Bushwacka! went on to score residencies at some of the world's most celebrated clubs, from Space in Ibiza to Sirena and Warung in Brazil, and perfectly captured their sound on their double mix CD 'All Night Long' in 2003. In 2005, Layo and Matthew set up their own label, Olmeto Records, and released their third album 'Feels Closer' in February 2006. This album, arguably their finest work, encompasses all the styles and influences of the pair, and proves their ability to remain at the cutting-edge in an ever-changing dance music landscape.
