New Years Eve - a time for reflecting on the past 12 months and setting new goals for the coming year? Nah…sod all that – NYE is the culmination of 12 months hard clubbing when you get to go out and…do more clubbing! This New Years Eve, The End took some of the club’s core residents and pitted them against each other in a DJ face off. Hey, there’s no harm in upping the ante a bit on New Years Eve, eh chaps? Will Saul picked up the baton in AKA with some of his excellent Simple-style deep, melodic grooves, before handing over to Freerange boss Jimpster. In the Lounge the effervescent Rant DJ’s were mashing up everything from Primal Scream to D.I.M., from The Clash to the Batman theme, followed by The Lovebox Allstars’ disco, broken beat, house and more. In the main room Carnival heroes Sancho Panza settled into the blue DJ booth as if they’d been there all their life, until Layo & Bushwacka! came along and booted them out to take control through to 7am with a storming set covering all shades of house and techno.

On NYE the question on everyone’s lips is – where should you position yourself at midnight? And what tune will the DJ play? Giant clocks on the walls of The End and AKA counted down the seconds, and in the end which ever room you chose it didn’t matter as all of them went off with a bang. Up in AKA Will dropped David Bowie ‘Lets Dance’, in the Lounge the Rant DJ’s plumped for Sinden & The Count of Monte Cristal’s ‘We Don’t Give a Damn’, whilst in the main room the Sancho boys got all sentimental with John Paul Young’s ‘Love is In The Air’.

 The rest of the night seemed to pass in the blink of an eye – the way that all good nights do, and after jumping between Jimpster’s frankly inspired set in AKA and Layo and Bushwacka! tearing up the main room, suddenly it was the first Jaded of 2008 and the sun was coming up outside AKA on a brand sparkling new year...
