DJ Profile
Belgian brothers David and Stephen Dewaele work by day as 2 Many DJs and moonlight as Soulwax, or vice versa depending on what mood you’re in. Raising their profile in 2000 on the well known Belgian radio show Hang the DJ, they experimented as 2 Many DJs mixing all sorts of music genres, or mashed-up-bastard-pop as it is known to some, which in turn spread like wild-flies across the tinterweb. What exactlyis a wild-fly? Anyway, from therein, it was only a matter of time before they released their first official bootleg release in 2002 called ‘As Heard on Radio Soulwax, Pt. 2’. Since then, every Tom and Dick has tried putting their Midas touch to this mash-up genre, pioneered by our fraternal friends...but nobody does it quite like 2 Many DJs, as Tiga, Gorillaz, LCD Soundsystem, and Daft Punk would testify on the strength of the prolific remixes that they commissioned from les enfants terrible. Unlike the mash-ups, their band Soulwax has more of a rocky, rootsy, bluesy kind of focus and compliments what they do on the decks rather well in all round sort of way. In fact the remix tradition works just as well for Soulwax who under that name, have worked with Ladytron, DJ Shadow, Sugababes and Kylie. Yes Charlene for neighbours. And that’s a good thing in case you’re confused. Viva la Belgique.
