If Bristolian trip-hop pioneers Portishead pick you as their tour DJ, you know you’ve done something right. Andy Smith was also the first DJ to release a multi-genre mix album on a major label. ‘The Document’ expertly blended Tom Jones, Peggy Lee and the Beastie Boys, appealing to a generation who were bored of single-genre mix albums and wanted something more creative. His album was so well received that he has gone on to release four more instalments, with the most recent, ‘The Trojan Document’, referencing dub, ska, roots and more. As well as being a talented DJ, Andy has made a name for himself as a producer of irresistible hip-hop breaks, working with Scott Hendy as Dynamo Productions.
