DJ Profile
Benga is widely regarded as one of the dubstep scene’s most important protagonists. His prolific output since his initial releases in 2002 have marked him out as one of the scene’s big hitters. As a youngster he worked in Croydon’s legendary and now defunct record shop Big Apple Records, and released a lot of his early work on the shop’s label. He’s since gone on to put out records on Tempa, Planet Mu, Hotflush, Planet Dubstars and Immerse as well as his own Benga Beats which released his debut album ‘Newstep’ in 2006. Benga and Coki, one half of Digital Mystikz, created ‘Nite’, a track that has now gone beyond anthemic status, and was not only the biggest tune in dubstep in 2007 but also found its way into the sets of Hot Chip, Ricardo Villalobos, Laurent Garnier and was even voted track of the year at the prestigious and eclectic Gilles Peterson Worldwide Awards. He releases his second album in 2008, ‘Diary of an Afro Warrior’ on Tempa. Catch Benga regularly playing at FWD>> here at The End.
