Bloc Party

Biography

Bloc Party are one of the leading bands of the UK indie scene over the last few years. After forming in 2002, they released a couple of singles on Trash Aesthetics and Moshi Moshi, before being signed up by Wichita Recordings in April 2004. Their debut album, ‘Silent Alarm’ was released in February 2005 and was a massive critical and commercial success. With massive singles ‘Helicopter’, ‘Banquet’ and ‘So Here We Are’ helping it to #3 in the UK album charts, the album sold over a million copies worldwide, including 350,000 in the US, and was named NME’s 2005 album of the year, elevating the band to the realms of indie royalty. The album was followed by a ‘Silent Alarm Remixed’ album, with re-workings from the likes of Death From Above, Four Tet, Mogwai and our very own Erol Alkan further spreading their appeal. Their follow up album in February 2007, ‘A Weekend in the City’ saw Bloc Party storm the charts once again, reaching #2 in the UK charts. In their formative years, Bloc Party were devotees of Erol Alkan’s Trash night at The End, and legend has it that the idea for the band was conceived on our dance floor. Bloc Party played a legendary gig at Trash in 2004, prior to the release of ‘Silent Alarm’ and the subsequent fame, a video clip of which can still be found on our site…
