Many artists lay claim to having shaped the landscape of electronic music, but few with as good reason to as Carl Craig. A producer in the truest sense of the word, he has said that he ‘approaches even a DJ set as if we creating a whole new tune from scratch’. He’s a producer who manages to combine versatility and innovation with consistently high quality, and tracks such as ‘Bug in the Bassbin’ and ‘Desire’ became instant classics when they were released. The list of remixes to his name is both long and illustrious – from Laurent Garnier to Throbbing Gristle, to the much lauded remix of Theo Parrish’s ‘Falling Up’. Of course you can’t talk about Carl Craig without mentioning his seminal imprint Planet-e (through which he chose to release most of his own tracks), nor his Innerzone Orchestra project, which saw him tour around the world with his seven-piece live band. He’s still continuing to break boundaries; recent remixes of artists such as Junior Boys confirm that Carl Craig is as vital today as he ever was.
