Hype is one of the drum & bass scene’s founding fathers and one of its most well known and loved DJs.  He started his career in the mid 80s running his own soundsystem, and was a key DJ in the pirate scene in the late 80s when rave began to kick off.  As drum & bass evolved, Hype quickly became one of its biggest DJs, whilst his labels, Ganja and True Playaz carved out a niche for themselves throughout the 90s as one of the finest labels for dance floor drum & bass.  Into the 21st Century, True Playaz and Ganja remain a force, most recently with artists such as Hazard, G Dub and Potential Bad Boy supplying the hits for the reinvigorated Ganja imprint.  Hype’s True Playaz has also been one of the best and most consistent club nights in London over the last decade, hosting parties here at The End before moving to Fabric.  With Hype as resident main room DJ, he has maintained his position in the upper echelons of the scene’s A list of DJs, and today, over twenty years since the start of his career he continues to be revered around the world, best demonstrated by his victory in the Best DJ category at 1Xtra’s Xtra Bass Awards in March 2007.  Having been resident here at The End, he can still be found playing regular guest DJ sets, most often for Andy C’s Ram Records.
