DJ Profile
DJ Patife
Born and raised in Sao Paulo, Patife was part of the Brazilian explosion in dance music around the turn of the century. First getting a taste of jungle in the mid 90s from imported records, he, DJ Marky and their crew developed a vibrant drum & bass scene in Sao Paulo. Spearheading this Brazilian drum & bass revolution inevitably led to interest from the UK and it wasn’t long before European bookings started coming in. Taken on as a resident at the biggest weekly drum & bass night at that time, Movement, Patife’s Brazilian rhythms and infectious enthusiasm for the music was a breath of fresh air keenly felt in the London drum & bass scene. Tracks like his samba-drenched ‘Sambassim’and ‘So Tinha…’ took his appeal beyond the confines of the drum & bass scene, becoming favourites of the likes of Gilles Peterson. Since then Patife has gone on to become a bona fide superstar in his own country, whilst maintaining an unfaltering reputation around the world for playing the very finest Brazil-tinged drum & bass sounds.
