Ed Rush has been a drum & bass pioneer throughout the duration of the genre’s lifetime. First turned on to the sounds of the breaks in hardcore, he begun producing alongside Nico, of No U-Turn Records, in the early 90s. Ed Rush set out his stall early on, with the darkcore sounds of ‘Bludclot Artattack’ in 1993, a dark style which he continue to pursue in his early career. Classics such as ‘The Mutant’ with Trace in 1995, ‘Skylab’ on Metalheadz and ‘Killamanjaro’ on Prototype in 1996 were pivotal in shaping the techstep sound that dominated drum & bass in the late 90s. The real magic started happening when he hooked up with Optical and together they formed Virus Recordings. The catalogue remains one of the most consistent and brilliant in the history of d&b and was massively responsible for the sounds’ direction in the late 90s and early 00s. Their debut album ‘Wormhole’ remains one of the genre’s alltime classics, and their subsequent LPs ‘The Creeps’, ‘The Original Dr Shade’ and most recently ‘Chameleon’ have kept them at the cutting edge of d&b throughout their careers. Ed Rush is a massively respected DJ, and over the years has been a regular performer at classic d&b nights here at The End such as Prototype, and current nights such as Renegade Hardware and Ram.
