DJ Profile
Grooverider
Grooverider’s name is synonymous with the genre he was so influential in shaping. Starting his DJ career playing funk, soul and hip hop in the 80s, after the explosion of acid house, he and long term DJ partner Fabio began playing at all the big raves around London. Their seminal residency at Rage at Heaven, between 1989 and 1993 was possibly the most important night in drum & bass history, a melting pot of sounds from which drum & bass began to develop. As the decade developed, Grooverider’s role in the scene grew further with his radio show, co-hosted with Fabio, first on Kiss FM before moving to BBC Radio One, allowing them to spread the gospel of drum & bass worldwide. Although more renowned for his DJ work than his production, Grooverider has an enviable back catalogue that, like his label Prototype, maintains an impeccable level of quality control. It was with his Prototype label that Grooverider enjoyed a residency here at The End, a classic night that brought together the very best elements in drum & bass. The living legend can still be found every Friday night on Radio 1, and regularly slots into the line ups at Swerve, Ram or Hardware here at The End.
