Biography

Ian Pooley is a rare breed of German DJ, one that avoids the techno sounds more commonly associated with the country’s most notorious night clubs in favour of more groove-based US house.  Having been around since the early 90s, Pooley has an extensive CV.  He started releasing through the likes of John Acquaviva’s Definitive Recordings, Effective Records and N.R.K. Sound Division in the early 90s and by the latter stages of the decade had been signed up to V2 Records.  After two artist albums, ‘Meridian’ and ‘Since Then’, he amicably parted ways with label, determined to release his next album in a truly independent way.  He set up his own label, Pooled Music, a vehicle for new aspiring artists as well as his own work, and in 2004 he released his first long player on Pooled, ‘Souvenir’, which showcased his distinct deep disco sound, with flourishes of the Brazilian and Latin music that has been such a great influence on him musically.  Pooley is not a DJ that is easy to pigeonhole when behind the decks, a guy capable of cutting up sounds from across the spectrum, where discofied house sits side by side with Detroit inflected techno.  Ian is a big favourite of the MN2S crowd and we’re lucky enough to have a recording of him rocking our main room here on the site – check the links to the right.
