The delightfully self deprecating James Murphy describes his music as sounding like a "poorly executed fist fight" or "an engine that needs the timing looked at and is running at capacity". Although this may not give much of an insight into what LCD Soundsystem actually sounds like, it does give us an insight into the curious mind of one of dance music's most brilliant musicians. Having begun life as a sound engineer for American punk bands, then actually being in two American punk bands, he finally formed LCD Soundsystem in 2002. Although LCD is effectively James and his studio, on stage it's James and a full band. Lyrics range from the brilliant 'Daft Punk is Playing at My House' to the benign (but still somehow brilliant) 'Yeah'. Truly the one of the pioneers of the crossover indie-dance-punk-funk sound, in the words of Carly Simon - nobody does it better. LCD's early gig at Trash was one of those nights where if you weren't there - you still kick yourself for not catching this supreme talent before he hit the big time.
