When drum & bass began, it was very much a London thing, but by the late 90s it had developed into a worldwide phenomenon, and Makoto was one of its first international stars, hailing from Tokyo, Japan.  After capturing the attention of Bukem after sending him a demo, Makoto was swiftly signed up to a long term deal with Good Looking Records.  He’s since gone on to become one of the most prolific artists on the label, combining elements of funk, jazz and soul – human elements – to his tracks and creating beautiful and enduring music.  He’s now released several acclaimed albums, most recently ‘Believe In My Soul’ and during the Progression Sessions residency here at The End he was a regular performer, whilst to this day he continues to play at Swerve whenever he’s in the UK.  A gifted producer and DJ, Makoto is one of drum & bass’ great talents and one who will no doubt be making great music for many years to come.
