Dutch producer Martyn has been turning heads with his production since 2005 when he started picking up his first drum & bass releases on Marcus Intalex’s Revolve:r imprint, Rohan’s Bassbin and DJ Flight’s Play:musik. His reputation quickly grew as he developed a style that was fresh and exciting, incorporating Detroit and Chicago sounds and influences into his music, creating some really interesting, original stuff. However, in 2005 he raised a few eyebrows with the release of ‘Broken/Shadowcasting’ on Revolve:r, a dubstep 12”. Although it’s now an increasing trend in drum & bass, Martyn was one of the first to successfully cross the border and he did it in some style, with a 12” of some of the deepest, most soulful and most original dubstep out there and in doing so attracted plaudits from the dubstep, D&B and even techno scenes. The music he has been releasing since has made him a name to watch across electronic music with everyone from Gilles Peterson to Laurent Garnier to Mr Scruff picking up on his stuff. He’s now launched his own label, 3024 Recordings – so look out for what’s coming next from him.
