One of the stars of Steve Bug’s Dessous label, Phonique had been throwing parties, DJing and producing in Berlin for years before his profile shot up enormously with the release of ‘The Red Dress’ in 2004. He has since become one of the most in-demand producers and remixers du jour. Phonique’s second artist album ‘Good Idea’, released in May 2007, drew on diverse talents such as Gui Boratto and Erland Oye, embracing live guitars and pianos alongside more electronic sounds. In early 2007 he started his own label ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’, with the aim of releasing underground house with, “a touch of je ne sais quoi”. A deeply talented producer, his tracks are as popular among deep house DJ’s as they are amongst devotees of the stripped back techno sound.
