DJ Profile
Ralph Lawson’s musical career was almost over before it began, after he threw his trumpet down the stairs in an act of teenage rebellion. When he discovered the drums, however, he realised he had found his rhythm. It was when he moved up to Leeds to study that he got sucked into the acid house scene in Manchester, and he had his eyes opened to a whole new world of electronic music. The scene in Leeds at the time was practically non-existent, so Ralph and his chums set up their own night, before Ralph was discovered by Dave Beer and got to play the first ever record at the legendary Back to Basics night. Now as well as DJing, he runs the utterly brilliant 2020 Vision label, as well as playing live with his 2020 Soundsystem project – whose distinctive brand of electronic funk has rocked clubs and festivals all over the world.
