Being discovered by Gilles Peterson tends to be a recipe for success, and that logic appears to be extending to Ben Westbeech.  His rough around the edges soul music is the product of a classically trained musician that got hooked on hip hop, dance music and sampled beats.  His debut album, ‘Welcome to the Best Years of Your Life’, on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label, was produced by Ben, with various tracks co-produced by Bristol drum & bass stalwarts DJ Die and Clipz.  The result is a cutting edge record with universal appeal, plus an astounding live show that has rocked crowds throughout 2007 including show stopping performances at Big Chill and Lovebox festivals.  Beyond his solo work, his vocals have become a regular fixture on the drum & bass scene with his voice lacing tracks by Clipz, as well as by DJ Marky and Artificial Intelligence.  Originally a DJ, before becoming a producer or vocalist, this is still a big love of his, and has seen him DJing here at The End for DJ Marky & Friends and at the inaugural Brownswood Records night.  Ben is a massive new talent who we can expect to see much more from in the future.
