Biography

Goldie is the most recognisable man in drum & bass, and one of dance music’s celebrities. However strip away recent appearances in Eastenders, James Bond, Celebrity Big Brother and so on, and you’re left with one of the most talented and innovative musicians drum & bass has produced. Growing up as a graffer and a breaker in the Midlands, he made a name for himself for his painting including working on design for 4Hero’s legendary Reinforced label. His early, and still classic, productions were released through Reinforced before he launched his own label Metalheadz which went on to become one of the most celebrated labels in d&b, with standards of the genre from the likes of J Majik, Dillinja, Photek, Doc Scott, Alex Reece and Ed Rush littering the back catalogue.  His debut album, ‘Timeless’, released in 1995 remains one of the genre’s finest moments; produced alongside engineer Rob Playford it is a beautifully crafted and realised piece of work.  The follow up, ‘Saturnz Return’ in ’98 featured the likes of David Bowie, KRS-One and Noel Gallagher, and although it didn’t receive the critical acclaim of ‘Timeless’ was a massive seller and a hugely ambitious project.  Since then, Goldie worked on other aspects of his career whilst maintaining a presence on the underground, through his DJ career and his label Metalheadz which has maintained its standards and remained at the forefront of drum & bass.  His most recent album, ‘Malice in Wonderland’, his first for nearly a decade, reaffirmed his commitment to the scene and his artistic credentials.
