DJ Profile
Marcus Intalex’ name is synonymous with a certain sound in drum & bass, energetic and forward thinking music with that unmistakable soulful groove. Plying his trade in dance music since the early 90s, running nights, record shops, radio shows and making tunes under various collaborative guises, including Da Intalex and Ill Figure, it was after hooking up with ST Files that Marcus begun to really find his sound. A handful of releases really took Marcus Intalex & ST Files, or MIST as they became known to the next level, ‘Love & Happiness’ on 31 Records, ‘Universe’ on Metalheadz, their ‘Just A Vision’ remix and the scene shaping classic ‘How You Make Me Feel’ also on Doc Scott’s 31 Records. These classic pieces gave Marcus the profile and the platform from which to build his massive subsequent success. In 2001 he launched Soul:R with ST Files, providing a regular home for their own music, as well as for that of the freshest new talent in drum & bass at that moment, Calibre. The three of them went on to produce as a trio, under the moniker Mist:i:cal, which has also produced an incredible body of work. Solo, as part of MIST, and of Mist:i:cal, Marcus has been behind such classics as ‘Mist:i:cal Dub’, ‘Barracuda’, ‘Lover’, ‘3AM’ with High Contrast, and the awesome Mist:i:cal album, ‘Eleventh Hour’. Soul:R spawned an offshoot label, Revolve:r and in recent years the two labels have been working with some fantastic new talent including Martyn, Break and their most recent signing Lynx. As a DJ, Marcus is a technically gifted selector, but his uncompromising attitude towards music, means an Intalex set is 100% music that he believes in, never what popular opinion dictates he should play. As a result his sets are loaded with gems from across the scene, some you’ll know some you won’t, some you’ll love some you won’t, but all will be a musical delight and will be delivered by a passionate and innovative artist.
