On paper, The Mystery Jets seem like an unlikely prospect for NME domination. Set up by an architect in his fifties, his son and his son’s friends, they hardly fitted into the brave nu-rave world that was unfolding around them. With a definite Pink Floydian edge to them, the complex guitar sounds owe much more to prog rock than you would expect from an NME favourite. And what a refreshing change - you can only have so many shouty lyrics and day glo t-shirts before it all just gets a bit much. Hurrah for the Mystery Jets!
