DJ Profile
Skream
Dubstep is one of the newest and most exciting genres in electronic music right now, and Skream is its most talented player. His production began at aged 15, with a dark, minimal style that became his trademark, particularly with his releases on the seminal label Big Apple Records. As the scene developed around him, his influences began to grow and tunes such as ‘Smiling Face’ and ‘Cheeky…’ demonstrated the expansion of his sonic palate. It was ‘Midnight Request Line’ that really took Skream to the next level. An anthem loaded with electro arpeggios and a deep, dubbed out basslines - it became the track that defined the genre to the mainstream community, and in doing so caught the attention of everybody from Radio 1 to minimal techno DJs such as Ricardo Villalobos. All of a sudden dubstep was the buzz scene, and it was in no small part thanks to Skream. His debut album, ‘Skream!’, was a critical and commercial success, and was another step in bringing dubstep to the attention of the wider music community. His ever-prolific production has continued apace since the release of his debut album, and with a massive international touring schedule and continuing popularity on the underground Skream seems set to continue as one of the key players in the dubstep world.
